The Storm Over Dragon Ridge

It sounded like an easy assignment.

That’s always how these things start.

Your Outdoor Magical Studies professor gathers everyone outside the School of Wizardry.

“Today we’re hiking to Dragon Ridge.”

Exciting.

“Your assignment is to locate three magical plants, record your observations, and return before dinner.”

Easy.

Probably.

Everyone receives a small field pack.

Notebook.

Map.

Compass.

Basic supplies.

Then the professor says:

“One more thing.”

There it is.

“The weather can change quickly near the ridge.”

You look up.

Blue sky.

Sunshine.

Not a cloud anywhere.

Seems fine.

Two hours later…

it is absolutely not fine.

Dark clouds roll across the mountains.

Wind begins blowing.

Temperature drops.

A distant rumble echoes through the valley.

Your friend looks up.

“Thunder?”

Maybe.

Another rumble.

Longer this time.

Professor stops walking.

Everyone waits.

Then:

ROOOOOOAR.

Your friend slowly looks at you.

“That wasn’t thunder.”

No.

Definitely had more personality.

Professor studies the ridge.

“We’re changing route.”

Good decision.

The class turns toward a lower trail.

Rain begins.

First a few drops.

Then…

everything.

Within minutes, the trail is wet.

Wind pushes through the trees.

Everyone pulls their jackets tighter.

Someone complains:

“This is terrible!”

Fair.

Another student asks:

“Should we turn back?”

Professor checks the map.

“Returning the way we came would take longer. There’s a shelter ahead.”

Okay.

New objective:

Shelter.

Keep moving.

The trail narrows.

Rain gets heavier.

Then the student in front of you slips.

You grab their arm.

“Got you.”

They regain balance.

“Thanks.”

Keep moving.

That’s House of Lion.

Not dramatic.

Not heroic music.

Just:

I’ve got you.

A few minutes later, the group reaches a stream.

Except the stream you crossed earlier is now considerably larger.

Water rushes over the rocks.

The little wooden footbridge?

Gone.

Everyone stops.

Professor looks upstream.

“We’ll need another crossing.”

A student groans.

“How far?”

“I’m not sure.”

Wonderful.

The rain continues.

People are getting tired.

Your friend looks miserable.

“I hate this field trip.”

You laugh.

“Yeah.”

“I want to go back.”

“Also yeah.”

“Why are you smiling?”

Because sometimes the situation is so ridiculous that complaining isn’t going to improve it.

“We’re going to make it.”

Your friend sighs.

“How do you know?”

You don’t.

But you say:

“Because we’re not stopping here.”

Keep moving.

Eventually, you find another crossing.

A fallen tree stretches over a narrow section of water.

Professor tests it.

Stable.

One by one, students cross.

Then your friend reaches the log.

Freezes.

“I can’t.”

“You can.”

“No.”

They’re genuinely scared.

So you don’t rush them.

You cross first.

Turn around.

“Look at me.”

They do.

“Not the water.”

Step.

Pause.

Another step.

Wind blows.

They stop.

“Keep looking at me.”

Another step.

Another.

Finally…

they reach the other side.

You grab their hand.

Safe.

Your friend takes a breath.

“I hated that.”

“Understandable.”

“But I did it.”

“Yep.”

That’s courage too.

Not loving the challenge.

Not pretending it wasn’t scary.

Just doing the next thing anyway.

The group continues.

Then you hear rustling in the bushes.

Everyone stops.

Something moves.

Professor raises a wand.

You hold your breath.

Out walks…

a tiny mountain goat.

Silence.

Your friend whispers:

“I thought it was a dragon.”

The goat sneezes.

Very threatening.

Everyone laughs.

Even the professor.

Finally, through the rain, you see it.

Shelter.

An old stone field station built into the hillside.

Everyone hurries inside.

Dry.

Safe.

Professor starts a fire.

Students sit down.

Someone passes around snacks.

Your friend leans against the wall.

“Best field trip ever.”

You stare.

“Twenty minutes ago you hated it.”

“I’ve changed.”

Fair.

The storm passes an hour later.

When everyone finally returns to school, the professor gathers the class.

“We didn’t complete today’s assignment.”

Nobody cares.

“But you did learn something more useful.”

The room gets quiet.

“You stayed together.”

That’s the House of Lion spirit.

Courage isn’t always charging toward danger.

Sometimes it’s continuing when you’re tired.

Helping someone across the difficult part.

Standing beside a friend who’s scared.

Admitting that you’re scared too.

Keeping the group together.

And refusing to leave somebody behind.

That’s what the House of Lion Outdoor Sticker represents.

Bravery.

Loyalty.

Adventure.

The willingness to keep moving when conditions aren’t perfect.

Put it on your favorite suitable smooth surface and take a little House of Lion spirit along wherever the road leads.

Sunny day?

Great.

Rain?

Still going.

Adventure gets complicated?

Stay together.

And if you hear roaring from the mountains?

Maybe check with the professor.

HOUSE OF LION.

Wizarding school pride.

Brave hearts.

Loyal friends.

Courage that sticks.

Stand tall. Stay together. Face the adventure.
